DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

This book is a rip-off for all crocheters! Its full title is ‘Family Circle Easy Plus Size Knits’ and bills itself as having ‘50 knit and crochet styles’. There is exactly ONE crochet item in it and that is the only one that is NOT a sweater. It’s a crocheted shawl - of the kind you can find for free online many places.

I usually like the Family Circle publications - but this one is a huge crochet disappointment. Fortunately, I didn’t buy it. I saw it at the library and checked it out, hoping to find some fresh ideas for crochet. Bummer! Such a disappointment. I’m really glad I didn’t take the title at its word and buy it without looking first.

Buyer beware!

I get disgusted at this kind of deception, too, jd! Crocheters are treated as second-class citizens who cannot create anything as beautiful as knitting. Fortunately, a few designers such as Doris Chan and Lily Chin are changing that.

ooooh, bev, you are SOOOO right about crocheters being treated as second class citizens - by publishers and yarn shops. when will they figure out that we spend big bucks on books, mags, yarn, and thread!!??

I had bought a book for $4.99 (actually 20% off the $4.99 because the book store was just a temp store at the holidays) and it was a Family Circle Knitted and Crocheted toy book. There were 25 patterns, maybe 5 were crocheted and they weren’t even that cute. Even in the large craft stores, the amoutn of crochet books are almost nil, I get more online from Amazon. And why is yarn always referred to as “knitting yarn”. Duh, we crochet!!!!

Roe, You’re right! Why is it called ‘knitting’ yarn? So wrong!
