Craft Gossip

I ran across this the other day and had to share!  Pretty cool.  I’m not built for this kind of jewelry – no neck – but I certainly admire the design and workmanship.

tribal-jewelry-0609This is Turkoman jewelry which is beaded, obviously, on a crocheted base.  The prices are quite high, but it looks like very high quality workmanship, very labor intensive.  Not for everyone, certainly, but an interesting use of crochet.  There are several different designs on the website:

I have developed a recent weird obsession. Someone GAVE me a bunch of brand new Altin Basak thread of all different colors, I googled it, it’s made in Turkey! Anyway I’ve been making granny squares out of it using a size 7 steel hook, they are sooooo small, I’m thinking of stiffening them and making them into earrings, Omygod, I can’t stop, I’ve been making all the ‘motifs’ I can find that I can adapt to this thread!
