I’m launching a new idea – and a fresh, new way for you to win prizes from CrochetGossip. It’ll be fun for all and could even be super easy if you have been crocheting for a while. But, even if you’re a newbie, you have an equal opportunity to win. Here’s what we’ll do:
At the beginning of each month, I’ll post a theme. Some will be seasonal. Some will be unique to my little brain. Then you have all month to upload a picture of a crochet project you’ve made that coincides with the monthly theme. You’ll need to email the photo to me (crochet at craftgossip dot com)along with your name, zipcode, and the origin of the pattern. The project may be your original design or one you’ve made using a published pattern (book, magazine, or online). We need to be able to credit the original designer so that others inspired by your design can crochet the item for themselves. Sound like fun?
Each person may email only one photo each month, although the photo can contain more than one item so long as it goes with our theme. For instance, if you’ve crocheted a bunch of purple hats and the monthly theme is Purple, then take a picture of all of them and email it to me. Photos must be in JPG format.
Often, we start with a particular pattern but go far enough afield in our project that the item is unique. In that event, since we are not the copyright police, we would consider the project to be yours. However, if you started or used at any point the design of another person, it is proper to post that information. So, you might have started with a plain double crochet skullie designed by X but you added appliques, an edging of half double crochets, and combined two yarn weights. The design is now yours but should be posted as ‘inspired by X pattern’. Since I have not closely read every crochet pattern in existence, we have to rely on the Honor System here. Just as you would want credit for a design you created, you’ll want to give credit to the designer who inspired your creation – even if your project qualifies as unique and original. Get that?
After you’ve emailed your photo and information to me, I’ll post it on the blog for everyone to see. Then, once the month is over, I choose a winner from all the entries and send that person a prize. The prize will be either a book, some yarn, or a gift card to a supplier of yarn, hooks, and/or other crochet related items. The prizes will vary from month to month. Books will be the most common prize and these will be new, recently published crochet books.
How will I determine the winner? Creativity, originality, color choice, quality of work (as far as I can see from a photo), adaptation, relevance to the posted monthly theme. I will be the sole determiner of the winner. I have my preferences and that’s just the way it is. Fortunately for you, my decision may not reflect the magical quality of your particular work. But, if you have it posted here, lots of people will see it. Further, a beginner has the same chance of winning as a seasoned crocheter with her/his own blog/website since your interpretation of the monthly theme will be unique and might just tickle my fancy!
Here’s a sample entry, including the picture at the top of this article. The monthly theme would be Afghans. It would be accompanied by this text:
This is an afghan I made for my nephew’s wedding. In case you want to make this afghan, it’s from Annies’ Favorite Crochet Magazine, June, 2001 but can also be found at www.freepatterns.com. It’s name is Vintage Lace Afghan designed (beautifully) by Elizabeth Ann White.
Feel free to email if you have any questions. I’ll post the first Theme Giveaway tomorrow (October 4, 2013) so stay tuned! Here’s a link to the first Themed Giveaway.
