Everyone needs to have a few stashed gifts that will work for a wide variety of ages and personalities.  I try to keep a few on hand.  And, we always need something last minute, don’t we?  Try one of these quickies:

A quick cell phone holder will work to hold a ‘real’ cell phone or a nonworking older one for a kid to play with:

Crochet a simple scarf and make it special by adding a scrunchie to hold the scarf around the neck or for the recipient’s ponytail.  I love this scarf:

coupled with this scrunchie – the easiest thing to make.  The yarn will MAKE it!

Last, there’s no one who can’t use a treasure bag.  I have them made up in a variety of yarns – from traditional camouflage for a little boy, to pink baby yarn for a delicate little princess, to a hearty brown wool for a ‘real’ man, and a ‘standard issue’ navy that would suit most anyone.  There are many patterns online – or you can just crochet a rectangle, seam it up, and feed a tie through it.  Easy.  Throw in a tiny ‘hot wheel car’, a pair of dice, a raffle or lottery ticket, or a piece of jewelry – or even a couple dollar bills.  One size fits ALL.
