15 Snowflake Themed Crochet Patterns Perfect For Winter

October 16, 2023 by Shellie Wilson

Winter brings with it a sense of enchantment, and what better way to celebrate the season’s charm than by immersing yourself in the art of crochet? Snowflakes, those delicate, frozen wonders, serve as the perfect inspiration for crafting beautiful and cozy creations that capture the essence of winter.

In this roundup, we’ve gathered 15 exquisite snowflake-themed crochet patterns that will infuse your home and wardrobe with a touch of frosty elegance. From delicate ornaments to warm and snuggly blankets, from stylish cardigans to intricate doilies, these patterns will help you create a winter wonderland of your own. Whether you’re an experienced crocheter or just starting your crochet journey, these patterns offer something for everyone. So, grab your crochet hooks and let’s explore the world of snowflake-inspired crochet creations that are simply perfect for winter.

Much like snowflakes themselves, each pattern in this collection is unique, carrying its own charm and elegance. They not only serve as delightful decorations but also as cozy companions for the chilly days ahead.

Now, let’s take a moment to reflect on the meaning of snowflakes. These tiny, frozen miracles, formed from the purest of elements, remind us of the magic and wonder that surrounds us, even in the coldest of times. Just as no two snowflakes are alike, every winter season brings its own special moments and memories.

And speaking of memories, I once spent a winter evening with my family, huddled by the fireplace, crocheting snowflake ornaments. As we worked on our projects, we shared stories and laughter, creating lasting memories that warmed our hearts as much as the cozy blankets we were crafting. It has now become a family tradition, each year there are less of us, but we continue to try and teach the young ones.

Snowflakes, in all their delicate intricacy, are a testament to the uniqueness of each winter season and the moments we share with loved ones. So, as you embark on your crochet journey with these snowflake-themed patterns, may you find joy in creating and treasuring the memories they bring, just like the fleeting beauty of a snowflake. Happy crocheting and may your winters be filled with warmth and wonder!

Basic Crochet Snowflake Pattern

This easy crochet snowflake is a lovely small project for winter decorating, gift toppers, garlands, cards, or hanging on the tree. It works up quickly and only uses basic stitches.

Skill level: Easy
Finished size: About 3 to 4 inches depending on yarn and hook

Materials

  • Small amount of white or icy blue yarn
  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Optional

  • Spray starch or fabric stiffener
  • Ribbon or thread for hanging
  • Beads or glitter for embellishing

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • st = stitch

Pattern

Round 1
Make a magic ring.
Ch 1, work 12 sc into the ring.
Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 2
Ch 4, skip 1 st, sl st into next st.
Repeat from * to * all the way around until you have 6 chain loops.
Finish with a sl st into the base of the first loop.

Round 3
Slip stitch into the first loop.
In each chain loop work:
sc, dc, tr, ch 3, tr, dc, sc
Repeat in each of the 6 loops.
Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

To Finish
For a flatter snowflake, lightly wet it and pin it into shape. Let it dry completely. For a stiffer ornament-style snowflake, use starch or fabric stiffener before blocking.

Ways to Use It

  • Hang on the Christmas tree
  • String several together for a winter garland
  • Add to gift wrapping
  • Sew onto a scarf, stocking, or tote bag
  • Use as a coaster for a festive table setting

Quick Variation
For a more delicate look, replace the ch 3 point in each arm with ch 5. This gives each snowflake tip a longer, more pointed shape.
