360 – That’s about how many days til next Christmas. Plan Ahead!!
Look what I found. This is so cool. I love to recycle and this is a perfect, very easy recycling project with which we can include crochet. Recycled CHristmas Trees
Every year I tell myself I’m going to keep Christmas simple… and then December rolls around and suddenly I’m knee-deep in ribbon, glitter, and pine needles wondering how it all got so busy again. So when I stumbled across these adorable Thrifted Holiday Trees from The Long Thread, I had one of those “oh, this is exactly what I needed” moments. Cute, handmade, inexpensive, and a little bit nostalgic—the perfect recipe for stress-free festive crafting.
What I love most about this project is how beautifully it blends creativity with sustainability. These sweet little tabletop trees are made from thrifted sweaters, felted wool, and other second-hand treasures you can scoop up for a couple of dollars at your local op shop. If you’ve been looking for an eco-friendly Christmas craft that doesn’t scream “Pinterest pressure,” this is it. The style is soft, cosy, and wonderfully homemade—like something you’d find in your grandmother’s attic and refuse to part with.
Let’s be honest, not every handmade decoration gets invited back onto the mantel year after year. But these trees? They absolutely do. Their textures feel wintery without being over-the-top, and because each one is made from different reclaimed fabrics, no two will ever look the same. That’s the fun of it. You can lean into whatever colour palette you’re decorating with this year—classic reds and greens, soft neutrals, or even quirky sweater patterns if that’s more your vibe.
And they’re quick. Truly quick. The kind of project you can whip up in an afternoon with a cup of tea while the dog naps under the table. I made similar sweater trees a few years ago and ended up giving half away because everyone who walked in the door wanted one. There’s just something about the handmade charm that people connect with.
Ok – imagine this with crocheted edging around about every third felted disc. I’m gonna make me one of these. I like the idea that the colors of the disc are all over the place. What about a sparkly gold thread for the edging? Or just white to look like the tree is snow-edged. Maybe add some beads or charms. Gotta get going on this one right after New Year.
