I love the shape of this pattern, designed by a French crocheter, Sophie, and sold under her name Sophie Gelfie. It’s called the Marina Shawl. The pattern is not free, but I believe we should be willing to pay for superior crochet designs. This pattern would be a great way to use up some partial skeins, but would also work up beautifully in a single color, a marl, or a long-stranded ombre or variegated. Since I have a strong affinity for variegated colorways, I’ll be making mine in one of those. The large stitch pattern should avoid some of the ‘puddling’ that is all too typical of many patterns when using variegated yarns – which is why I prefer those with long-stranded colors – so the puddling is easier to avoid.
Also, the shape is one I prefer. Although there is that V, it’s not as deep as in most shawls. I find that V gets in my way a lot. I prefer not to have it. I’d love to see your favorite shawl patterns, so please feel free to post a link to them in the Comment Section below if there is a picture online.
For a truly unusual shawl, take a look at this beauty, also from the same designer! You can take a look at all her designs here. Most of them are a bit different – charming and lovely.
