Belts are back! Have you seen the latest fashions? Many are belted or have belts added to a layered look as an accessory. They must be fashionable because my daughter has finally asked for something crocheted – a belt! This took me online to browse through fashion shots and free pattern sites to see what’s out there.
My daughter is petite and very wasp-shaped, so she looks better in a very thin belt. However, she looked splendid in a bride’s maid dress that was very tailored with a cummerbund (Cumberland) type waist accent. She’s easy to suit. Many of us aren’t so easy. I won’t wear a belt these days. No need to accent something I no longer have – a waistline!
Here are some cool belts I found. Hope you’ll enjoy them.
This one is great for a soft look. The findings (buckles, etc) are readily available at craft stores – or scrounge from an old belt or purse that you can rip up.
This vintage beauty for the small waisted woman can be made with pearls or any other small bead you like:
This one has no pattern, but I like the idea. Just take an edging pattern that you like, crochet it to the dimensions you need, and add a buckle. I’d put a less contrasting buckle on if it were my belt, but that’s purely a personal preference. There are plenty of free edging patterns available online and in books you might already own. Make it to suit you.
Here’s another narrow vintage belt that I think is very pretty. You could make it wider by doubling the width??
Another idea is just to take a skinny scarf pattern and make it long enough to tie around your waist. Couldn’t be any easier than that, especially if you’re narrow around the middle.
You’ll find other belt ideas in this inexpensive Ebook I’ve reviewed before:
We hope you enjoyed this collection of free crochet belt patterns and that you’ve found a design that catches your eye. With these patterns, you can create stylish and functional belts that will add a touch of handmade charm to your wardrobe. Whether you prefer thin or wide belts, simple or intricate designs, there is a pattern here for you.
Crocheting your own belt is a great way to express your creativity and make a statement with your fashion choices. Plus, you can customize the colors and textures to match your personal style. So go ahead and give it a try – you’ll be amazed at what you can create with just a hook and some yarn!

I gave up belts long ago in favor of long shirts untucked! BUT I have a narrowly waisted daughter! I know she’ll enjoy these ideas!
