Materials Needed:

  • Bernat Handicrafter Holidays – Rouge (Worsted weight, 4-ply cotton)

  • H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook

  • 3/8-inch silver ribbon

  • Craft glue or hot glue

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

 Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain

  • sc – single crochet

  • dc – double crochet

  • st – stitch

Pattern Instructions:

Chain 16

Row 1

1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and 1 sc across (15 sc). Turn.

Row 2

Ch 1, sc in first 7 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in last 7 sts. Turn.

Rows 3–7

Repeat Row 2.

Row 8

Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st – repeat from * to * across, ending with a dc. Ch 1 and turn.

Rows 9–15

Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off and weave in all yarn ends.

 Adding the Ribbon

  1. Horizontal Band:
Weave ribbon through the open spaces created in Row 8 (dc row). Start from one side and alternate over/under through each ch-1 gap.

  2. Vertical Band:
Weave another piece of ribbon vertically through the ch-1 spaces in Rows 2–7 and 9–15, creating the look of a wrapped present.

  3. Securing Ribbon:
Flip coaster to the back and secure the ribbon ends with a dab of craft glue. Optionally, wrap them to the back and stitch or glue for a cleaner finish.

  4. Finishing Touch:
Tie a small bow with your silver ribbon and glue it at the top center where the bands intersect. Make sure glue is applied only to the ribbon, not the yarn.

 Tips & Variations:

  • Swap red yarn for green or white for a festive mix.

  • Try metallic ribbon or baker’s twine for different looks.

  • Turn this coaster into a hanging ornament by adding a loop of ribbon.
