Looking for a standard Chicken nugget pattern?

These chicken nuggets look adorable when placed inside a fry container, completing the playful presentation. You can find these containers at various stores like dollar shops, Amazon, or even create your own using a Cricut machine and some cardstock and glue.

Materials

  • 6 mm Crochet Hook
  • Bernat Blanket Yarn
  • Felt or Safety Eyes
  • Stuffing
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

I prefer using felt eyes for my chicken nuggets, but you can use safety eyes if you prefer. With the suggested yarn and hook size, the completed nugget should measure about 5” (12 cm) tall. I used Bernat Blanket Yarn in the color specified below, but feel free to choose any yarn type or color:

Yarn

  • Color A: Velvet Yarn – Gold or Mustard

Abbreviations

US Standard Terms:

  • MR – Magic Ring
  • SLST – Slip Stitch
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • HDC – Half Double Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • INC – Increase
  • DEC – Decrease
  • F/O – Finish Off
  • BLO – Back Loop Only
  • FLO – Front Loop Only
  • DEC2J – Decrease to Join
  • Work the project in rounds unless specified otherwise.
  • It’s always good practice to read the entire pattern before starting to understand the construction.

Pattern

Chicken Nugget

We will begin from the top and work downwards, closing the bottom at the end.

  1. Start with 8 SC in a MR (8)
  2. INC in each stitch around (16)
  3. (1 SC, INC) around (24)
  4. SC in each stitch around (24)
  5. 6 SC, 6 DEC, 6 SC (18)
  6. 3 SC, 6 DEC, 3 SC (12)
  7. 3 SC, 6 INC, 3 SC (18)
  8. 6 SC, 6 INC, 6 SC (24)
  9. SC in each stitch around for 5 rounds (24)
  10. Finish off, leaving a 12? tail for sewing.

If you are using safety eyes, place them now. If using felt eyes, you can attach them after stuffing the nugget. Once the nugget is stuffed, fold it in half and weave the tail through the stitches on both sides to close the bottom.
