I wanted to bring this to your attention. It’s the best beanie pattern I’ve seen – and it’s free once again, thanks to the croshay lady. Please visit her site to obtain the free pattern:

I’ve made a gazillion of these beanies. They are exceptionally popular among males in teens
and early twenties. Great way to use up some scraps too. Make them in hunter orange for
safety, in team colors for your guys, and in softer, sweeter colors for the young ladies in
your life.

Thanks, JD, for all your support these last few years, it’s sure been exciting to see how much interest in crochet has grown! I hope your readers can put this pattern to plenty of good use!

I will be releasing some of my own variations on this design and others over the next year, as well as working to get other designers involved in contributing to open source crochet, so do check back at my open source project blog too see whats new: http://oscrochet.blogspot.com/

I was looking at your pattern for a boy beanie and was wondering, when you say “MC” what does it mean?
jd wolfe says
MC means Main Color. CC means Contrasting Color.
Hope this helps!

I know that this response is really late, but I felt I needed to comment. I found this beanie pattern online some time ago, and I have made this beanie several times, using a variety of weighted yarns and hooks. It’s pretty easy, and quick. I’d definitely recommend it!

I made this beanie a while ago for my son. I have been asked to make beanies for all his roommate this Christmas. Because it is an easy pattern and can be made quickly from a the yarn bits left over from other project I am happily crocheting gifts for them. Thanks for posting this great pattern.

I’m about to start the ninth round of this pattern and my beanie has barely started rounding off. It seems like the beanies in the picture started rounding off rather early and i know they’re supposed to start off flat, but mine looks pretty flat still. Should I continue or just start over again?(it’s about the 3rd time i’ve attemped this already)
Help please.

Marriah,
I wish I could help you. It’s been years since I’ve crocheted a beanie. However, I had no difficulties with the pattern, so I’d suggest you just keep following the pattern.

Marriah,
I have not made this in years so I’m not much help. However, I recall that I had no problems with it, so I’d suggest you closely follow the designer’s pattern.
