I recently met Rachel, the owner of Dyeabolical Yarns and Spinning Fibers. And, I quickly snatched up a hank of her beautifully hand painted cotton warp yarn in a colorway that includes lavenders, roses, and golds. Can’t wait to get this hank wound into a ball so I can make a baby sweater with it. It’ll be a special one.
Rachel was one of a handful of crochet artists who participated in the recent Green with Indie Upcycle Craft Fair at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. The school’s gym was filled with the goods of all sorts, all created from recycled, salvaged, scrounged, and rescued materials. You know how I love me some upcycling!
The yarn I snatched quickly from Rachel’s basket is an example of her hand dyed work. She also has roving for spinners (deliver me, PLEASE. Not ANOTHER ‘hobby’ for me!) ROVING
A note about the cotton yarn I purchased. This yarn is 100% cotton warp yarn – the stuff that weavers wrap across their frames longwise to weave into. I have written before about the wonders of this stuff. It’s very hardy and is perfect for potholders and other utilitarian crochet. In this case, because of the scrumptious colorway and the hand that the dyes have given the warp (softened greatly), I’m choosing to crochet a baby sweater with it.
Rachel, herself, prefers her cotton slubbed yarn for crocheting sweaters. She was wearing one she had made herself when I met her. That’s some nice yarn!
