FIND ME A PATTERN, PLEASE!

May 28, 2010 by jd wolfe

I just bought four skeins of this utterly delicious yarn:

Berroco Sox Metallic

Each 100 gram skein contains 380 yards (350 meters) of yarn and suggests a 3.25 hook.  Care is machine wash warm, lay flat to dry.  Fiber content is 73% Superwash Wool, 25% Nylon, and 2% other fiber (??).  It has a lovely hand and the colorway is mauves/purples/pinks (my fave).

So, what do I make with it?  With a total of 1,520 yards, I have a lot of options.  For a sweater, I’d need a size large.  I don’t really ‘need’ a shawl or scarf/hat set.  I won’t make socks!  So, I need some ideas.

Can you suggest a pattern for me?  Links to a pattern online or the name of a book containing the pattern would be most helpful.  Send me  your ideas PLEASE!

PS:  To see all the colors this yarn comes in, check this site:

I’d suggest a bag or accessory of some sort so you can carry it with you on a daily basis and enjoy the yarn! Lion Brand has a bunch of bag patterns here: http://cache.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi?search=Search&searchText=&craft=0&categoryKey=1115446&subcategory=13&size=&edition=&cost=Any&componentCategoryKey=Any&yarnClass=Any&searchType=0&I4.x=19&I4.y=14&I4=Search!

Afghan? It’s gorgeous and that’s a lot of yarn. Maybe early Christmas scarf/hat sets? Fingerless gloves.

Have you checked out the work in Knits from a Painter’s Palette: Modular Masterpieces in Handpainted Yarn? I love that book.
Maybe you could get an idea from in there…I don’t have it handy right near me and I’m sort of on the way out to run errands or I’d get it from my storage and run through all the patterns in there. They have everything from vests, shawls, sweaters, coats, etc. I think worked in modular form…that yarn would make scrumptious little squares…

Those colors would look great in a big Bear 🙂
Make the ears and the nose a solid color. Also use a solid on the paws and palms.

I have this pattern in my To-Do list. The model doesn’t show the duster off well, but I think those colors would make a very pretty duster.

I would put it together off white or black for the border and make something with yo-yo’s
