Free Crochet Pattern – T-shirt Yarn Handy bag

April 11, 2023 by Shellie Wilson

The Handy Bag is a versatile and practical accessory that can be knit or crocheted using Nako Frizzy T-Shirt yarn. T-shirt yarn, also known as Zpagetti yarn, is made from recycled t-shirts or other knit garments that are cut into strips and then rolled into a yarn. It’s a great way to repurpose old clothes and give them a new life.

The Handy Bag pattern is simple and easy to follow, and it’s perfect for those who are new to working with t-shirt yarn. The finished bag is perfect for carrying around all your essentials, such as your phone, keys, and wallet.

T-shirt yarn is a great choice for crochet projects because it is thick, durable, and easy to work with. Here are five other things that can be crocheted with t-shirt yarn:

Tote bags – T-shirt yarn is perfect for making sturdy and durable tote bags that can be used for shopping, carrying books, or even as a beach bag.

Rugs – T-shirt yarn can be used to create soft and colorful rugs that are perfect for the kitchen or bathroom.

Baskets – T-shirt yarn is great for making sturdy baskets that can be used to store items such as yarn, magazines, or even as a planter.

Coasters – T-shirt yarn can be used to create colorful and absorbent coasters that are perfect for protecting your furniture.

Scarves – T-shirt yarn can be used to make warm and cozy scarves that are perfect for keeping you warm during the colder months.

The Handy Bag pattern is a great way to put your t-shirt yarn to good use and create a practical and stylish accessory. T-shirt yarn is a versatile and eco-friendly choice that can be used to make a variety of different crochet projects.

Making your own t-shirt yarn is a fun and easy process that allows you to repurpose old t-shirts and give them a new life. Here are the steps to make your own t-shirt yarn:

  1. Gather materials – You will need old t-shirts, scissors, and a yarn ball winder (optional).
  2. Cut the t-shirts – Lay the t-shirt flat and cut off the bottom hem and the sleeves. Then cut the t-shirt into strips that are about 1-2 inches wide.
  3. Roll the strips – Take one of the strips and roll it tightly into a ball. Repeat this process with the rest of the strips.
  4. Connect the strips – Once you have rolled all the strips into balls, take the end of one ball and tie it to the beginning of the next ball to connect them. Repeat this process until all the balls are connected.
  5. Wind the yarn – If you have a yarn ball winder, you can use it to wind the yarn into a neat ball. If you don’t have a yarn ball winder, you can wind the yarn by hand.
  6. Use it – Your t-shirt yarn is now ready to use! You can use it to crochet or knit bags, baskets, rugs, coasters and many more.

Note that the thickness of the yarn and the length of the strips will depend on the width of the t-shirt and the size of the scissors you use. Also, keep in mind that t-shirt yarn made from stretchy knit fabric will have more stretch than t-shirt yarn made from cotton t-shirts.
