We had a fun meeting of the St. Louis Crochet Club at Hearthstone Knits on March 16, 2011. I finally decided to dedicate a notebook just for the purpose of recording meeting info, so this month (at least), I’ve got some pretty good notes.
Show ‘n Tell was the highlight, as usual. No newbies, but Lois who was new last month joined us again! She’s still working on American Doll designs, some of which she is designing herself. We are all encouraging her to write down the patterns. This month, she had completed a cute pair of slippers in bright pink and a hunter green duffle bag. She’s now working on a filet shawl of her own design, also in hunter green. We look forward to seeing more American Girl goodies from Lois.
Cathy, who was actually the first to show her work this month, set the tone for shawl and scarf offerings.
She had completed a beautiful Queen Anne’s Lace Scarf in green for St. Pat’s day. She also had two wonderful shawls – a Rippled Wrap in Bernat Socks Wooded Denim colorway and a Seraphina in LB One Pounder in white. She’s also currently working on an All Shawl in white.
Valli had two bags full of WIP’s and a couple pairs of tube socks of her own design, shaped to fit her comfortably. Continuing on the scarf and shawl theme, Valli showed a wool scarfette, an original stitch design, in a beautiful fingering wool and was using hte same stitch pattern for a different project in KnitPicks merino ‘twilight’ laceweight. Also, she shared a skirt pattern form Inside Crochet worked in Webs alpaca and silk lacewight, another pattern in Tincel and merino in ‘vanilla’ color from a Carolyn Christmas pattern. In addition, she showed a shawl in brons and blues (different yarn but perfect color match to Cathy’s Wooded Denim) and wool and silk ‘shades of valli’ greens Azure Skies shawl from Inside Crochet.
Melinda, who has been tending to tiny Shannon and pre-schooler Renee, is still working on her ripple afghan for her sister. In addition she has made a beautiful butterfly baby sweater in Noro sock yarn in pinks – delicious colorway and a tin whistle carrier for Renee to carry her whistle to classes she takes in addition to Irish Dance. Also, a cute, cute Ms. Pacman spectacle holder.
Mandy has added spinning to her repertoire and wants to add weaving too. I think I have a loom for her. Will dig around and find it.
Not only was Mandy wearing a beautiful knitted Coquille shawlette in Wollmeise sock yarn, she also made the lovely silver shawl pin adorning it! Other projects from Mandy included her first pair of knitted socks in natural dyed merino and nylon (cabled – not a beginner project but done perfectly!), mardi gras socks for her husband, a bunch of knitted hats, and a cowlette made from yarn she spun from hand dyed Corriedale wool. Hope I got that spelled right! Along with those items, she has also shared the knit Buttefly Bush shawl and a WIP baby shawl in wool.
Rita has been dyeing wool again. Lots of skeins of passable sock yarn is now morphed into stunning sock yarn thanks to Rita’s handy ways with Kool-aid and food dyes. Along the way, she managed to knit a pair of green socks for St. Pat’s Day.
Joan also showed off her St. Pat’s socks in Marathon North Pole yarn and the beautiful white feather and fan knit shawl in Evita yarn she’s working on.
Ronnie used up the last of her Ironstone Monet yarn in another beautiful Shredded Scarf from Inside Crochet. She also shared the Tunisian Redrock Wrap from Interweave Magazine and the Allegheny Moon Moebius in shaded browns from Online Yarns.
Plus, she has made a very bright Josephine Scarf, actually a shawl or cape, in RH Kaleidoscope colorway. This scarf contains 25 tassels, all hand made by Ronnie. But, the best thing she shared was a stunning child’s crocheted dress she found among her late mother’s things. With no tag attached to it, no memory of it, and no known history, the dress is a mystery. But the pattern is truly lovely. We’ll be looking for the pattern source, so if anyone recognizes it, please let us know. PLEASE CHECK MY NEXT BLOG ENTRY FOR DETAILED PICS OF THIS DRESS.
Georgia shared the knit Pinkerton shawl which is lovely, knitted in her own variation of a ‘4-sided triangle’. She’s also working on a crocheted afghan consisting of hexagons in 3 different shades of Berrocco Sox. The pattern is called Wald and appears in Berrocco Sox Book #4 (mostly knit but at least this one pattern in crochet).
The use of these 3 variegateds tickled my crochet brain, so I bought one skein of each (her pattern calls for 2 skeins of each) to make it into something requiring no joining – probably a shawlette. We’ll see what the yarn wants to be. Certainly not socks from my hands! (NOTE: the colorways are different in real life than in the picture.)
My Show ‘n Tell consisted of a series of scarves and a necklace I’ve been designing. I’m using two yarns together or separately for most of the designs, Louisa Harding Kashmir Aran (55%merino, 35%microfiber, 10% cashmere) and JoJoland Melody Superwash fingering weight – the Louisa Harding is a soft, dusty pink while the JoJoland is a variegated that includes that pink along with other colors.
I really hope I got all the details right. Please feel free to post a correction if you’re aware of one (or more).
