Made By Mary decided to contact Disney directly about copyright on her Superhero Patterns and Dolls. She was told she could no longer sell the patterns. So she has decided to give them away.
It’s sad when creativity and hard work have to come to an end due to copyright restrictions. However, Mary’s decision to give away her Superhero Patterns and Dolls as a gift to her supporters is a selfless act of kindness. It’s heartwarming to see her generosity towards her fans who have appreciated and valued her work.
The fact that she’s still sharing her patterns, even though she can no longer sell them, shows her passion for the craft and her commitment to spreading the joy of crochet. It’s not often you see someone putting others’ enjoyment above their own financial gain. Mary’s action is a testament to the spirit of community and collaboration within the crafting world.
This is what Mary had to say
I got a letter back from Disney stating I am not allowed to sell Marvel and Disney related crochet patterns for business purposes. Sounds to me like I can’t sell them, but I won’t get in trouble if I give them away. So after much thought, I decided instead of retiring them, I’m going to make them all free! THANK YOU to everyone who has purchased them from me. I put a lot of time and effort into making these patterns and I hope you feel you got your money’s worth.
Superhero Patterns Available free and if you want to compensate Mary, consider purchasing one of her other patterns here.

It sucks what happened here. But you were the bigger lady and did what was best. Even if Disney does not understand the art of crochet and how much time and effort went into designing all those cute superheroes.
Thank you Mary for the free patterns.
I think your generosity show be rewarded so if you look at my pins under things I made and see some patterns you would like to have just let me know. I will be more than happy to share with you also.
Sorry this happened to you.

It’s a shame that Disney and Marvel can’t see how talented Mary is, but atleast you went about it the legal way unlike so many other people. I have seen your Patterns All over Pinterest with people trying to claim them as their own and I report as many as I can. We as designers work so hard and it’s not fair for others to steal our work. I am trying to help you out Mary as much as I can.. Have a Great Night ????????????

I love your patterns. I have purchased several and have made several and they are great. Thank you for the free Super Hero Pattern. I do a lot of crocheting for the homeless and a local kids Christmas charity for under priviledged at I am sure they would love the super hero ones.

Very kind to share your patterns, rather than burying them. Folks should be made aware, though, that they cannot legally sell the dolls without obtaining permission from Disney. Disney owns the trademark on those characters. Trademark is the issue for both the patterns and the finished products (not copyright — if it were, you couldn’t even give the patterns away). Huge entities like Disney and NFL hire people to go to craft shows and watch Etsy, Amazon, and the like for the sole purpose of finding anyone infringing on their trademark rights and reporting back to the company. For these companies, it is worth every penny to protect their IP. (I am not a lawyer, but I have researched this issue ad nausium.) Any attorneys reading this can back me up, or in the alternative, correct me, if I am mistaken.????

Well done thank you so much for all these free patterns. I too crochet for charity and the less we spend on the patterns means the more we can gift. Sorry you have issues with Disney. These big corporations just don´t appreciate the little folk!

You may want to contact a Lawyer because you Also can not Make them OR give them away either. You may not share The finished projects or the patterns you wrote. It is against violation of Copyrights.you could again be in additional trouble. You can not even share the patterns because once again you do not own the patterns because You violated the Infringement Copyright Laws. I know because I am a Infringement Copyrights Scout that you have been warned about in comments by followers & I do report all Copyright Violations I find, You could be punished with thousands of $$’s fine or greater & Time in jail just for continuing violations when ask to stop and seize all, which includes sharing for free and continue to make & give away excessively. The little Folks just don’t get it that you are stealing and now there is laws to follow by You & All who thinks it is OK to ignore the Laws put out to protect the investors who own the rights to the ideas you copied. To copy the ideas is same as walking in a Store then taking things without paying for them ( CALLED SHOP LIFTING). But This crime you continue to violate is & can be prosecuted as a felony fraudulent charge if you want to be a Big Company to invest as they do then design your own doll idea not copy cat and you then will understand why Big Companies have laws to protect their ideas you little people think you have rights to stealing. I also take my new Job as an Infringement Copyrights Scout Serious & I have to report this Violation since I have all the screen shots needed.
You can Not in any way as a consumer (THE LITTLE GUY) Infringe on the Copyrights of Protected Trademark, Logo or Patent owned by Another legally registered for the ownership of such idea..
GOOD DAY

You should probably update that Mary cannot and will not give away these patterns; it states as much on her Ravelry home page. She specifically states that she doesn’t want people contacting her asking for the patterns.

Mary should have tried to sell KITS to Disney directly, with the help of an attorney. There are boxed crochet kits that disney has marketed and let me tell you, they are ugly. Mary’s are awesome are fantastic.
