Many of us have adored pets – dogs, cats, birds, etc. Many of us like to crochet for our own pets and for rescue centres such as the Humane Society. Small afghans are great for the dogs at the animal shelter, but what else can we make for pets? Here are some ideas I hope you’ll enjoy.
These are awfully cute for the smaller dog:
Doggie Booties for Winter dogs
Lion Brand always has a lot of free goodies. I love this cat toy. It’s a favorite of a friend of mine and her two cats.
My furry dog doesn’t need a sweater, but lots of dogs do. This one is quick and easy. Great way to use up scraps too.
Less common pets like ferrets and sugar gliders (a marsupial from Australia) have other requirements. Check out this cute bag for a sugar glider. They are referred to as ‘nests’ or ‘hives’ as the animals like to ‘hang’ together. Do you really need a pattern to work this one up?
Try this one for a ferret:
My dog prefers to chew up most of what I crochet if she can get her paws on anything! But, I’m going to crochet her a dog bed soon. I think she’s finally old enough to enjoy having the padding under her rather than the hard floor.
What have you crocheted for your pet?

Owning a dog can be very expensive and not only does making your own dog beds, coats and toys seem like fun, it is also a great way to save money on pet supplies too. One of our puppy’s favorite homemade dog toy is a soda bottle ½ filled with rice. It is noisy, it flips and spins and has a spout for him to grab.
