Book Review – 150 CROCHET TRIMS

September 10, 2009 by jd wolfe

150 CRO TRIMS 0909150 Crochet Trims , Published in 2007, this book is a delicious collection of crochet edgings and some motifs (especially flowers), complete with color pictures and written instructions.  What’s missing?  Schematics.  Susan Smith has assembled a pretty collection of trims that is well displayed in this attractive book, but schematics would have improved things.

The Double Rings Belt on page 97 (project # 149) is an intricate looking belt that can be made fairly simply.  It’s a stunner.  I also like project #114, Framed Flower, and #119, Golden Leaf.  These are different than others I’ve seen.  There are some cute things here that can be adapted for a variety of uses.

If you don’t already own a similar book, this might be a nice addition to your crochet library.  It’s widely available used online.  Originally, it listed for $21.95.  It is 128 pages, published by St. Martin’s Griffin in the USA, with ISBN 9780312359829.

Cute Donut Monkey Crochet Kit

I mean… who wouldn’t fall in love with a monkey hugging a donut? This Cute Donut Monkey Crochet Kit from HiCrochet might just be the most adorable thing I’ve seen all week. It’s sweet, silly, and totally irresistible. Whether you’re new to amigurumi or just love a good weekend project that makes you smile, this kit has everything you need to bring this donut-loving little monkey to life. The design is playful and full of personality—and let’s be honest, that donut accessory is a whole mood.

This kit would make the cutest gift—either made up or as a DIY surprise for a crafty friend. It’s beginner-friendly, super fun to stitch, and the final result is something you’ll want to show off on every shelf (or maybe sneak into your snack drawer for fun). If you’re looking for a lighthearted project with maximum “aww” factor, this little donut monkey definitely delivers. Let me know if you make one—I’d love to see how yours turns out!
