TWO SMART CROCHET TEENS

September 11, 2011 by jd wolfe

Two young ladies attended the August, 2011 meeting of the St. Louis Crochet Club.  One, Mary, had attended a couple of meetings before.  She’s pretty much a beginning crocheter but had already designed a lovely little ruffled cuff bracelet that I’ve blogged about before.

Mary’s Ruffle Bracelet
This month, Mary brought her friend Tessa to our meeting.  Tessa hadn’t crocheted, she swears, for several years.  She’s just started 10th grace and had last crocheted in fifth grade!  Next thing we know, Tessa is passing around a bracelet of her own design, a pretty piece of broomstick crochet worked in a blue variegated worsted weight yarn.  We all oohed and ahhed.  The bracelet was so pretty.

Pretty soon, Tessa is teaching Mary the broomstick technique using a chubby marker instead of an unwieldy large knitting needle or a real broom handle.  We were all impressed with Tessa’s ingenuity!  Since the bracelet is only a single row of broomstick, joined to make a circle to fit over a wrist, the marker is much easier to use.  Tessa’s one smart crocheter!  In the photo, you’ll see that Tessa has covered the marker with a piece of white paper.

These are some talented crocheters.  We can all learn a thing or two from them.

My hat goes off to these girls! I self taught myself to crochet when I was 25 and I haven’t stopped since.(I only wish I’d learned at their age). I hope these girls make a career out of designing crochet.
