This might be the world’s largest ball of twine or maybe the largest is one of the other four pictured here. Hmmm. One is estimated to contain eight million feet of yarn. That’s just under 2,000,000 yards of twine. Twine! At least four individuals or groups have found collecting and rolling into a ball something as simple as twine.
Have you ever crocheted with twine? It’s not a lot of fun. But, the stuff is durable and we could crochet truckloads of shoes or tote bags or rugs or hammocks – or a collection of all the above.
You can (should!) read about each ball as it’s described in an article by Tim Hwang. One of the balls even has its own Twitter account! Hwang’s article contains the locations and weights of these balls. They do kinda look like works of art in a rustic way. I must admit to being impressed with the tenacity and care with which each ball is treated.
But, back to crochet. If we could talk one of the owners out of one of the huge balls of twine, what should we make with it? Use your amazing spidey-crochet-sense and give us your ideas, keeping in mind that twine is typically not soft and cuddly. Just saying…..
See Hwang’s article here.
