As a crochet enthusiast, I have always enjoyed making baby blankets for friends and family members. There is something special about creating a handmade item that will wrap a little one in warmth and love. Now that my own children are teenagers, I find myself missing these smaller-sized projects. Perhaps it’s time to start crocheting blankets to put away for their own future children. Although, with my tendency to start and stop my WIPs, it may take me just as long to finish one as it would for them to have kids!
One of my favorite crochet techniques is the Bobble stitch, especially when used in baby blankets. The bobbles add a lovely tactile element that little fingers can grasp onto and explore, while also providing a fun and playful visual texture to the blanket. Recently, I came across some bright and colorful rainbow designs using the Bobble stitch and I was immediately inspired to create this roundup of crochet projects.
While not all of these Bobble stitch baby blanket patterns are free, the majority of them are. Each pattern offers its own unique take on the Bobble stitch, whether it be in the form of an animal-themed blanket, a rainbow-colored one, or a classic textured design. I hope you enjoy making these DIY crochet Bobble stitch baby blankets as much as I do (or will!) and if you do end up crocheting one, please come back and let us know which one you made and how it turned out.

. While the exact origins of the bobble stitch are unknown, it has been used in various forms of needlework for centuries.
The bobble stitch is sometimes referred to as a puff stitch or popcorn stitch, depending on the specific technique used to create it. It is essentially a group of stitches worked together into one stitch, creating a raised bump on the surface of the fabric.
The bobble stitch has been used in a variety of crochet projects throughout history, including blankets, hats, scarves, and more. It gained popularity in the 1960s and 70s, when crochet became a popular hobby in the United States.
Today, the bobble stitch remains a favorite among crocheters, who use it to add a playful and textured element to their projects. It is often combined with other crochet techniques, such as stripes or color changes, to create unique and eye-catching designs. Whether used in a classic or modern way, the bobble stitch continues to be a beloved crochet technique.
