32 DIY Gift Toppers and tags You Can Crochet For Christmas

October 30, 2023 by Shellie Wilson

Last year, I decided to make a little something extra for all of my Christmas gifts – crochet bows. It was a time-consuming project, but I loved every minute of it. I spent hours at my crochet hook, carefully crafting each bow with love and care, I started in September and aimed for 20.

As the holiday season approached, I wrapped each gift with a beautifully crocheted bow on top. My family was thrilled with the extra touch, and they all commented on how much they appreciated the personal touch.

The holiday season is all about spreading joy and love to those around us, and what better way to do that than by giving thoughtful gifts to our loved ones? But why stop there when you can add a personal touch to your gifts by making your own gift toppers and tags!

In this collection, we’ve gathered 32 DIY gift toppers and tags that you can crochet for Christmas. These little projects are quick, easy, and perfect for those who love to add a handmade touch to their gifts. You’ll find a variety of designs, from classic and elegant to fun and whimsical, all created with the magic of crochet.

These handmade gift toppers and tags are a great way to show your loved ones that you put extra effort and thought into their gifts. They add a unique and personal touch to your gifts and will make them stand out under the Christmas tree.

Crocheting your own gift toppers and tags is also a great way to reduce waste during the holiday season. Instead of buying disposable and plastic gift wrap, you can opt for reusable materials and create something that can be used year after year.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share a little handmade cheer with my family. It’s a tradition that I plan to continue for many Christmases to come.

How to Crochet a Simple Bow Tutorial for Beginners

Here is a crochet pattern for a simple gift tag bow:

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn in your desired color
Crochet hook size G/4.00mm
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Instructions:

Ch 40

Row 1: In the second ch from the hook, work 1 sc. Work 1 sc in each ch across. Turn. (39 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1. Work 1 sc in the first sc. Ch 5. Skip 4 sc. Work 1 sc in the next sc. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1. Work 1 sc in the first sc. Work 5 sc in the ch-5 space. Work 1 sc in the next sc. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1. Work 1 sc in the first sc. Ch 5. Skip 4 sc. Work 1 sc in the next sc. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1. Work 1 sc in the first sc. Work 5 sc in the ch-5 space. Work 1 sc in the next sc. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

To form the bow, fold the piece in half, with the wrong sides facing out. Use a tapestry needle and a strand of yarn to tie the middle of the bow together. Fluff and adjust the loops to your desired shape. You can also add a button or other embellishment in the center of the bow to give it a little extra flair. And that’s it! You have a simple crochet bow that you can use to top off all of your gift-giving this holiday season.
