Make Your Own DIY Crochet Face Mask Pattern

This face mask pattern is a great back up plan for the medical-grade respirator masks.  Even if they won’t protect you from getting the dreaded coronavirus they will surely start a great conversation.  I am not going to say if these will work or won’t work, so please don’t e-mail me telling me how to avoid coronavirus or email me telling me the virus doesn’t exist.

Lot’s of people are seeking DIY masks right now and if You don’t sew then this is a great alternative. I highly recommend adding a filter pocket or some cotton fabric to aid.

  3. Except that person still has bills to pay, maybe they just lost their job? Maybe their whole family did? If you can spare a small amount of money to support the designer isn’t that fair? There are also plenty of FREE patterns if you want to go and look.

  4. The country is being asked to support small and local businesses so why should crochet and knit designers be expected to give away their products?! Because this is related to our current challenge or because some crafters are used to not paying for designs? The price being asked is certainly reasonable. I’m paying it for a coworker. Who will then likely give away the masks from them. But I’ll happily pay for every copy of the pattern I hand off.

  12. There are many many free crochet mask designs online, if you don’t want to pay for a design use a free one. I would never sell a pattern that was being used to make something that may be life saving…period. Yes some have lost their jobs etc, but many of those who have are on YouTube showing how to make masks and not trying to sell their patterns. Anyone who knows the basics of crocheting can make a mask without a pattern.

    As someone who lost both of their jobs for being “nonessential” and relies on a hobby like crocheting to make some kind of meager income, I am only too happy to pay it forward to someone who took the time to make a pattern. If she was asking for some outrageous price, that would be one thing, but it is a nominal fee for the time it took to make the pattern. It will help put food on her table, or help pay a bill.
    Support small businesses and don’t be a dick about it!

Keep on scrolling until you find a free one. Just stop being so nasty. Why not help support the people who out of work. I am recovering from breast cancer surgery (I had a double mastectomy 4 days ago) I was going to make some and take them to the hospital that helped me.

  23. This person DESIGNED a pattern that that takes time and skill and took the time to write it all down to help people find who don’t want to take the time to do it themselves. She absolutely deserves to SELL her pattern. She did us all a favour figuring out the headaches of making it. Why should she GIVE herself away. She is not profiting in any means from a disaster. She is an artist trying to make a decent living like everyone else. I am so sick of of the fucking cheap jerks out there looking /expecting everything for free. Figure out how to make the pattern yourself and shut the F up! Cheap, lazy losers. i am so sick of seeing posts by all of the idiots! They wouldn’t do anything for free and here is someone taking the time to come up with the pattern, take pics, write everything up, pay for the website and the Etsy account upfront and then lazy assholes want to come and bitch about the pattern not being free. Grow up ppl everyone! She deserves to make money for her time.

I don’t see JoAnn’s giving away elastic, fabric and the other materials needed to make masks; restaurants are not making deliveries for free, grocery stores are not giving away food that we are stocking up on because of the crisis. Crisis can either bring out the best of us which we should acknowledge and affirm, or it can bring out the worst which we should acknowledge and reflect on.

  26. Thank you for this pattern. For those who think it should be free, there are plenty of people on YouTube you can watch. Of course, you won’t get the WRITTEN pattern, but I’m sure you won’t have trouble following the crocheter or writing the pattern down yourself.

  29. I crocheted one as soon as this virus started. Just made a chain across my face to length i needed. Then single crocheted rows to height i needed. Made 2 more chains,put each end thru a space on each corner of the rectangle, tied the ends of the chain together and had a double loop for over the ear. was a rectangle but usable. I cut a top piece of a man’s tube sock and pinned it to one side for the cotton protection layer.
    I get nice comments on it.
