BLOCK CONTEST – AND THE WINNER IS………

July 16, 2007 by jd wolfe

Yikes!! This has been difficult – wonderful, but difficult. When I conceived this contest, I thought I would get a bunch of potholders and a few really creative entries. Well, my readers skipped the potholder stage completely (thank you!) and went directly to the very creative and inventive. Thata Pang even entered the contest, using her own square in her design. So, I’ll recap the entries here and give my thoughts. FOR EASE OF UNDERSTANDING, I’M WRITING MY COMMENTS IN ALL CAPS. HERE GOES:
Thata Pang (the designer of one of the contest squares) has sent me pictures of her contest entry. Here they are:

Another view of the top.

THATA IS A PREMIERE CROCHET DESIGNER IN MY OPINION. SHE HAS ONE BOOK ABOUT TO BE PUBLISHED IN INDONESIA AND A SECOND IN THE WORKS. I LOVE HER BLOG AND THINK HER DESIGNS ARE CREATIVE. I AM CONTINUALLY ASTOUNDED AT HOW MANY PROJECTS SHE TURNS OUT – CROCHET AND FELT – AND OFFERS TO HER READERS WITH DIRECTIONS AND CHARTS. I LOVE THE TOP SHE HAS DESIGNED HERE.

Here’s the lovely afghan Ruby entered:

RUBY’S ENTRY WAS THE FIRST I RECEIVED. BOY, SHE CERTAINLY CHOSE COLORS THAT ARE ‘WINNERS’ FOR ME. WHILE THIS DESIGN IS SIMPLE, I BELIEVE THAT RUBY’S CHOICE OF COLOR AND PLACEMENT IN THIS DESIGN RAISES IT FAR ABOVE THE ORDINARY.
And, an entry from Yasmin:

I LOVE THIS DESIGN FROM YASMIN. IT WAS THE LAST ENTRY, ARRIVING IN MY MAILBOX ON JULY 14. YASMIN PERSISTED THRU EMAIL PROBLEMS TO GET THE PICTURE TO ME. SHE ALSO INCLUDED OTHER VIEWS WHICH I WILL POST LATER, USING HER YOUNGSTER AS THE MODEL. YASMIN’S USE OF SIMPLE STITCHES AND COLOR PLAY TO SET OFF THATA’S LOVELY SQUARE IS VERY APPEALING.

And, here’s the entry from ‘rlynnmc’:

AND THE WINNER IS – LYNN! THIS WAS THE SECOND ENTRY I RECEIVED. YELLOW IS NOT MY FAVORITE COLOR – BUT LYNN SETS IT OFF NICELY WTIH THE GREEN ACCENTS TO CREATE THIS LOVELY TODDER SET. I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE WAY LYNN PULLED PARTS OF THE MOTIF OUT TO USE IN DIFFERENT PLACES IN HER FASHION SET. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS DESIGN IN THE COLORS USED BY RUBY ABOVE!!

I AM TRULY GRATEFUL FOR ALL WHO ENTERED! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR CREATIVITY AND DESIGNS WITH THE REST OF US. THIS IS THE SPIRIT OF THE INTERNET CROCHET COMMUNITY WHICH MAKES IT SO COMPELLING TO GO ONLINE EVERY SINGLE DAY. I AM ALWAYS ANXIOUS TO SEE WHAT BEAUTIES MY FELLOW CROCHETERS HAVE CREATED!

SO, DRUM ROLL

AND FIREWORKS

FOR LYNN! I’LL BE IN TOUCH WITH HER TO GET HER SNAIL MAIL ADDRESS TO SEND HER PRIZE PACKAGE. Lynn – I DO NOT have your email address!  Please contact me at [email protected].

Note: My son took my camera to Europe with him, so I won’t be able to post a picture of the prize package going out to Lynn. I will, however, post a list of the goodies.

And, please stay tuned for future contests!!

The other entries are wonderful designs!
Thanks so much, this was a great experience!
I enjoyed working on this project. And JD I’m not really fond of yellow either! I was just thinking to go with the color scheme of the square and make it bright and summery looking.I’m sure it would be lovely in pink!

Glad to hear from Lynn – the winner!! I’ve got Lynn’s snail mail, so the prize package will go out to her later this week. If Lynn or other participants has written a pattern and cares to share it with us, I’d love to post it here. Thanks so much to all who entered!!
