Crochet A Scarf

May 31, 2014 by jd wolfe

The Never Ending Scarf is the perfect project for crocheters looking to create a warm and cozy scarf that is both stylish and practical. This scarf is designed to be long, luxurious and comfortable to wear, making it an ideal choice for those cold winter days when you want to wrap yourself up in something soft and cozy.

The scarf is made using basic crochet stitches, so it’s easy enough for even beginner crocheters to make. Whether you want to make a scarf for yourself or for a gift, this pattern is perfect for you. With its versatile design, you can easily adjust the length and width to suit your individual needs and tastes. If you want to crochet a really lush, long scarf, this one ” just be perfect for you.

Here are the steps to make a basic crochet scarf:

Materials needed:

  • Yarn (any type and color of your choice)
  • Crochet hook (size will depend on the thickness of your yarn)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in the ends)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by chaining a multiple of 2 stitches, plus 1 additional stitch. The length of your chain will determine the width of your scarf. For example, if you want a wider scarf, you can chain more stitches.
  2. Once you have your chain, turn your work and make a single crochet in the second chain from the hook.
  3. Continue making single crochets in each chain stitch across the row.
  4. When you reach the end of the row, turn your work and make a single crochet in the first stitch.
  5. Continue making single crochets in each stitch across the row until your scarf reaches the desired length.
  6. When your scarf is the desired length, cut your yarn and fasten off.
  7. Use your tapestry needle to weave in the ends.

And that’s it! You now have a basic crochet scarf. You can add texture, color changes, or other embellishments to your scarf by experimenting with different crochet stitches or techniques. Happy crocheting!

Scarves are one of my favorite ‘go to’ projects.  If there’s a new yarn I want to try out, making a scarf does not involve a huge financial investment – and I needn’t spend a month working on it.  Also, having a nice stash of scarves is a good way to be sure there is always a gift handy.  Thought I would share with you some of my favorites and some that are new to me.  Let me know what you thing about these – and tell us what your ‘go to’ scarf pattern is.  One of those things we can never have too many of.

Urban Shells is probably my favorite scarf pattern.  It’s an easy repeat to remember and works well for a variety of yarn weights.  While the edging might look a bit feminine, it’s not really.  When you work it up in a dark variegated, you’ll see that it will work fine for a man or boy.  Caron’s Simply Soft Paints ‘Sticks and Stones’ is a great yarn choice to make one of these for a man.

cro breast scarf 0514

This is the next scarf I think I want to make.  It’s designed as a symbol of breast cancer awareness, but could easily be worked in any two colors that appeal to the crocheter.  I love pinks, so this one could work for me.  But two sharply contrasting colors would be delicious as would a tone-on-tone look.  Even more practical might be variegated on one half with a complimentary solid color on the other half.  Also, I’m not much of a fan of fringe, so I would likely omit it.  What about you?

If you are looking for the famous scarf with pockets from the article above, it is a paid pattern and can be found on Etsy  But take a look at this link because we have highlighted a lot more amazing Etsy patterns.
