Crochet Cute Projects for Kids with Alla Koval (And a Giveaway!)

Alla Koval is a crochet and knitting designer who focuses on kids, and she recently released two pattern books full of crochet projects for girls ages 2 to 12. Imagical Seasons (the name is a combination of imagination and magical) books are collections for the seasons.

So far spring and summer have been released, with fall and winter on the way.

Koval describes her projects as “happy-fashion,” and they’re sure to delight the frilly, girly, fun children you know.

“As a knitwear and crochet designer, I like colorful designs with inner simplicity which has intricate and unusual twist or detail,” she said. As a book and pattern designer and writer I have additional approach to the ‘style’: I like very detailed stitch diagrams, easy to use page layouts, practical and useful instructions, vector graphics and white background – and many-many other little things which make a book and every single pattern page to look best.
 
“And for my books, I am really happy that I am releasing not a collection of nice looking but different patterns, no, in my books I tried to pass a very distinct design and inspiration message how to apply patterns in different ways to get outstanding results.”

The spring book has 10 patterns including two blankets, a shawl, a cowl, bolero, headband, cuffs and a top. I love the colorful Tutti Frutti blanket and the fun ice cream amigurumi.

The summer book features eight patterns: a dress, top, poncho, coverup, beaie, blanket and a square motif that could be used to cover a pillow or make a patchwork blanket. My favorite here is the Petalline dress, a strappy halter top with an empire waist and asymmetrical hem (it’s pictured on the cover).

The projects are both written and charted, so the books are great for helping you learn to read charts if that’s a skill you haven’t yet picked up.
