Crochet Patterns- 14 Bookmarks

March 28, 2020 by Shellie Wilson

Crochet bookmark patterns are a fun and practical way to add some personality and style to your reading experience. A bookmark is an essential accessory for any book lover, as it helps to keep your place in a book and ensures that you can pick up right where you left off.

Crocheted bookmarks are a great project for both beginner and experienced crocheters, as they can be as simple or as intricate as you’d like. You can choose from a wide variety of crochet bookmark patterns, ranging from basic designs to more complex and detailed patterns.

In addition to being practical and fun to make, crochet bookmarks are also a great way to show off your creativity and personal style. You can choose colors and patterns that match your personality or the theme of the book you’re reading. Crocheted bookmarks also make great gifts for book lovers, as they are a unique and thoughtful way to show your appreciation for the written word.

Reading is an important and enriching activity that has numerous benefits, including improving memory and critical thinking skills, reducing stress, and expanding your knowledge and understanding of the world. A bookmark is a simple but essential accessory that can help you to fully enjoy and appreciate the books you read.

Crochet bookmark patterns are a fun and practical way to add some personality and style to your reading experience. Whether you’re making them for yourself or as a gift for a book lover, crochet bookmarks are sure to be appreciated and treasured.

One of the best things about making bookmarks is that they crochet up quickly, allowing you to finish a project in no time at all. And since they are relatively small, you can use up any leftover yarn you have lying around in your cupboard. This makes them not only an excellent way to use up your yarn scraps, but it also means that you can create bookmarks in a wide range of colors and textures.

One of the things I love most about gifting bookmarks is that they make the perfect addition to any gift. Whether it’s a birthday card, a Christmas present, or a gift card, adding a handmade bookmark shows that you’ve put a little extra thought and effort into the gift. It’s a small but meaningful gesture that can make all the difference.

In particular, bookmarks are a great gift for older children and teens. They’re at an age where they’re starting to read more, and having a unique and personalized bookmark can make the reading experience all the more enjoyable. And because bookmarks are relatively inexpensive to make, you can create a whole bunch of them, allowing you to gift them to multiple people without breaking the bank.

Feather BookMark Pattern

This feather-shaped crochet bookmark is perfect for adding a touch of elegance and texture to your reading materials. Whether you’re gifting it to a book lover or simply want a charming, handmade bookmark for yourself, this simple yet stunning design will definitely make your pages stand out. The pattern uses a basic crochet stitch, making it ideal for both beginners and seasoned crocheters alike.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Any yarn of your choice (lighter weight yarn like DK or worsted weight works best)
  • Crochet Hook: Use a hook suitable for your yarn (recommendation: 3.5mm to 5mm hook)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle (for weaving in ends)

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)

Instructions:

Feather Base:

  1. Ch 31 (this is the length of your bookmark).
  2. Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, make 1 sc. Continue making 1 sc in each chain across. (30 sc)
  3. Row 2: Turn your work. Ch 1, sc across (30 sc).
  4. Repeat Row 2 until your piece measures about 5 inches long, or your desired bookmark length.

Feather “Veins” and Shaping:

  1. Row 1: After your base is done, ch 3. Work 3 dc into the first stitch of the row to create a “feather” shape. This will create a fan effect at the bottom of the bookmark.
  2. Row 2: Next, ch 2 and make 3 dc into the next stitch. Continue making these fan-shaped stitches along the edge of your bookmark, making a total of 6-7 fans.
  3. Row 3: Now, create the “feather shaft”. Ch 5 and skip 3 stitches, slip stitch into the 4th stitch, ch 5 again. Repeat this to create a thin “spine” along the top edge of your feather.
  4. Continue adding additional fans to complete your feather shape. This will help create the texture for the feather’s sides.

Finishing:

  1. Once the feather shape is completed, slip stitch to the first stitch, then fasten off the yarn.
  2. Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends.

Optional Embellishments:

  • Add beads to the ends of the feather “veins” for a bit of sparkle.
  • Use a different color yarn for the feather spine to create a contrast against the main body of the feather.
  • Use a tiny pom-pom at the end of the feather for a cute touch.

This feather-shaped bookmark adds a fun, creative element to your reading experience. The texture of the fans and the simple spine create the perfect delicate look to mark your pages. Whether you make it as a gift or to keep for yourself, this bookmark will certainly add a unique charm to your collection.

Feel free to adjust the length or add embellishments to make it your own! Enjoy your crafting time and happy reading!
