Deconstructing Crochet

I don’t know about you, but I have a terrible time trying to count stitches in my own projects to write down a pattern or a mere adjustment to a pattern!  I find it to be a painful and frustrating experience, but when I’m in that creative zone, I completely forget how useful it would be to have written down my stitches and steps.

Enter smart Sonia Maria!  Go to her blog to see a larger image of the project pictured above.  You don’t need to read or write her native Portugese to be able to take advantage of the information she gives in this article.  How clever is this?  Simply take a clear close-up photo of the project in question – preferably in color – and write each stitch right there on the photo.  Voila!  You have all the information you need to recreate the specific project.

In the browser I use, there is an option to automatically translate the site.  For Felando De Crochet, the translation works remarkably well.  And, there is plenty to see in Sonia Maria’s blog.  She is a very creative and prolific crocheter, offering many projects for us to enjoy and lots of inspiration.

I plan to use this ‘deconstruction’ technique to visually take apart a todder sweater I’ve recently crocheted.  Since it turned out vastly different from the pattern that inspired it, I might like to recall how I created it.  I’m one to crochet the same thing over and over again (with rare exceptions), it can’t hurt to have notes on one of my own creations.
