So last week a friend of a friend asked me to make a Dinosaur for her new Grandchild. Obviously being the people pleaser that I am I agreed. It has been a while since I made a toy so I am kind of looking forward to working on something a little different. But I have to admit, I think I spent more time trying to find a Crochet pattern I wanted to use, than it will actually take me to crochet the dinosaur. So this my friends is going to be Henry, the Dinosaur and he needs to be completed by the end of the month to go to his new home. He will be living on a shelf in a forest, jungle-style nursery. Perfect Gifts: Rivulet Beanie Review – Free Crochet Pattern
I absolutely love the Rivulet Beanie by Brenda K.B. Anderson, and I’ve already made three of them to put away as Christmas gifts for my daughter-in-law and my sisters. This pattern is everything I was hoping for in a cozy, rustic winter hat.
The beanie has a beautiful combination of cables and subtle bobbles that add just the right amount of charm. I especially love the small peak at the top, which gives it that unique, slightly whimsical Tomten vibe. It’s the perfect balance between practicality and style. The wool used—Wool of the Andes Worsted—is so warm and soft, and I’m confident it’ll keep them toasty during the cold months ahead.
The pattern itself was an enjoyable challenge. The ribbing is worked sideways and then slip-stitched into a ring, which was a fun technique I hadn’t tried before. The body of the hat is made in continuous rounds, and the Cabobble Cable stitch gives it a lovely textured look. It definitely kept me engaged without being too difficult—great for crocheters with some experience, though beginners might find the intermediate level a bit of a stretch.
I made the beanies in Persimmon Heather, which is a gorgeous warm color that will look stunning on anyone. The sizing options are great as well—there’s a version for solid colors and another for multicolored yarn, but I stuck with the solid for a classic look.
If you’re looking for a handmade gift that’s both beautiful and functional, I highly recommend the Rivulet Beanie. It’s the perfect project to work on now and have ready for the holiday season. I can’t wait for my family to open these thoughtful, cozy gifts!
