This contest gave me fits!  You crocheters really found some stunning examples of crochet artistry out there to post.  I hope everyone will click on every entry to see the lovely work.  The choice came down to four for me.  Carmen posted a truly stunning example of crochet artistry using the (dreaded for me) bullion stitch.  Linda Day attempted to bribe us all with the cuteness factor – using adorable tots to model heart motif headbands.  Very difficult to resist.  And Cath T presented a lovely example of a uniquely shaped doily.  Hard to think of that even as a doily – but a lovely piece.

So, what made this entry by Christina so special for me?  Hmm.  I’m not a huge fan of popcorns.  I’m pretty sure I don’t want to add a zipper to my crochet (although I have in the past).  But, this little heart is just so charming!  Worked up in any colors, it will be a winner.  And, it’s useful.  I like that.  Not just eye candy.  We love eye candy, don’t we?  So, it came down to pure artistry and personal taste.

There were other fantastic projects posted too.  The Danish Hearts were lovely – and I’ll likely be making them for a friend who is – you guessed it – Danish!  So, from the very simple (single crochet open heart shapes used in a garland) to the very complex (the aforementioned bullion stitch and the doily entered by Cath T), a nice, wide range of heart-shaped projects were entered.  So much to see.  So much to crochet.

Free Purple Witch Hat Keychain Crochet Pattern – Cute Halloween Bag Charm

If you love those tiny crochet projects that use hardly any yarn but still look ridiculously cute, this little witch hat is worth adding to your Halloween list.

The Free Purple Witch Hat Keychain Crochet Pattern on CraftBits is worked from the top down in one main piece, so there is very little sewing together at the end. You start with the pointed purple hat, add a black band, work the brim, then finish it off with a tiny gold buckle and that classic crooked witch-hat shape.

It is exactly the sort of project I like for leftover yarn. You only need small amounts of purple, black and gold, which means those odd little yarn balls we all refuse to throw away finally have a purpose.

The finished hat can be attached to a keyring or bag clip, but you could also use it as a Halloween tree ornament, zipper charm, gift topper or even string several together to make a spooky little garland.

I also love how easy it would be to change the colours. Try orange and black, green and purple, or cream and dusty pink for a softer cottage-witch look.
