There are any number of websites and a couple of great magazines out there for indie (independent) crafts which includes indie crochet. The projects are very eclectic in genres and tend to appeal more to younger crafters (altho’ I’m quite middle aged and LOVE the indie craft movement) with lots of inspiration and creative ideas. Even the projects that don’t focus on crochet give me new ideas for ways to use crochet or to incorporate crochet with other crafts – like deconstructing simple tee-shirts to create totally new garments. If you’re so inclined, check out some of these sites and publications.

here are two projects that are free at the adornmag.com website.
Craftzine mag’s website has even more free projects and a great blog. The following projects are a sample of free crochet projects from their ‘Instructibles’ web pages:
make your own yarn swift
or spiff up your old kitchen cabinet hardware with this nifty idea
or crochet this adorable set for the new baby in your life.
Dig around in these sites and you’ll find lots of bright ideas, many of which are free for the taking. The crafters and artists who dream up all these ideas seem only too happy to share with the rest of us.
As for indie crochet sites online – there are plenty. Check these out or just google ‘indie crochet’ and plan to spend a few hours surfing to see all the talent and their great projects, blogs, and pix.

jessica lucia has come crazy hats to offer.
And, finally, I think this is one of my favorite indie projects. These would be practically free to make. We could all start now and have well over 300 days to get our ornaments and package decorations made for Christmas 2008! Aren’t they too cute?
