Free Crochet Patterns – MEN’S SWEATERS

Finding suitable crochet patterns for men is always a challenge. I’ve been surfing for some lately – and searching my stash of books and magazines. I keep remembering the words of my cyberbuddy Ken Jones when he stated that he ‘didn’t know any men who would actually wear most of the men’s crocheted garments.’ LOL. Well, then who are these things made for? I think many of the men’s crochet sweaters are garments particular women have created or adapted to fit the man (or men) in their lives. For me, that would mean making something that would flatter a short man with a barrel chest – my husband – as opposed to making something for my 6’3″ skinny son with the torso that just never seems to end. You know what I mean? My husband and I both have short arms and need items that fall into the ‘petite’ category in terms of length – but not necessarily for the width. LOL. Much more handsome – quite manly in fact – is this freebie. I think it would look good, maybe in a different color, on a shorter man.

Here’s my favorite men’s sweater pattern. It’s not a freebie, but well worth the small cost. The use of color and the front panel on this would really flatter a shorter, smaller man.

And that, folks, is the limit of the men’s crochet pullovers I could find online. If I find some great patterns in my stash of books and magazines, I’ll let you know. Likewise, if any reader can point us to anymore men’s pullover sweater patterns online, free or not, please let us know.

  1. I am also looking for a crocheted men’s sweater pattern. However, my hubby prefers a button down v neck (the current sweater he favors has been handed down for 3 generations and is literally falling apart — also a knit). I can knit, but prefer crochet.

  10. I’ve found that “The Crochet Dude” books are the best for finding something that your guy will actually use/like/wear. I’m lucky in that I have a hubby who is appreciative of the effort that goes into making something (his grandmoms quilted and sewed, his mother quitlts and basket weaves, my aunt weaves fabric, and I crochet and cross stitch), so he’s pretty easy to make something for. However……..Crochet Dude has saved my life a few times with last minute stocking stufferes for my brothers who aren’t appreciative of the effort……if they like it bonus, but don’t hold your breath! Little late for Christmas, but maybe in time for New Years?

    Not sure what constitutes a man’s Christmas sweater, but I like Ken Jones’ designs. You can find him at lulu.com by searching for ken jones crochet. he’s the crochetdude, so you can find him that way also. Crochetpatterncentral.com is another good place to check.

The Miffy Crochet Book Review: 16 Sweet Projects for Bunny Lovers

There is something rather lovely about that, especially when you’re looking for crochet projects that feel sweet without being overly fussy.

More Than a Miffy Bunny Crochet Pattern

The collection includes Miffy and friends as amigurumi toys, alongside projects such as a blanket, motif cushion and moon-and-stars mobile.

There is also a birthday theme, with a crochet cake, placemats, bunting and a crown. That gives the book an appeal beyond toy making, particularly if you enjoy creating decorations that can come out again for family celebrations.

I like that mixture. Sometimes you want a small character project with a face to embroider. Other times, a larger piece of crochet is exactly what you want beside your chair for the evening.

The collection uses seven yarn shades, which gives it a cohesive feel. You will still need to check the quantities and requirements for each project before shopping. Seven colours does not necessarily mean seven balls, much as our yarn budgets might wish otherwise.

Is It Suitable for Beginners?

The publisher describes the book as beginner-friendly and says it includes illustrated guidance for the key stitches. There are also projects offering more challenge.

My practical advice is to choose your first make by the techniques involved, rather than simply picking the smallest item. Small amigurumi pieces can require quite a bit of counting, shaping and careful assembly.

Before starting, check the book’s stitch terminology, recommended yarn and hook size. Those details matter more than choosing a colour that happens to look lovely in the basket.

For me, the strongest selling point is the coordinated theme. This would be particularly appealing for crocheters who love Miffy, enjoy character projects or want several related handmade gift ideas.

The narrower theme is also something to consider before buying. If you prefer a crochet book packed with different animals and styles, this collection may feel too specific. Its appeal depends on how much you enjoy Miffy’s simple, recognisable world.

Simple faces also deserve careful finishing. A tiny change in eye placement or the angle of an ear can alter a character’s expression, so I would allow time for pinning and checking before sewing everything permanently.

That is the charm for me: familiar, cheerful designs with room to make something personal. Just decide which project you’re starting before buying the yarn. Otherwise, “one little bunny” has a habit of acquiring a blanket, bunting and its own birthday party.
