Quick And Warm 6 hour Crochet Afghan

When I first saw this lovely afghan that Allison indicates she crocheted in under six hours, I was skeptical.  It’s so pretty, both in color and in the choice of stitch pattern, that I could not understand how it could be worked up so quickly.  Then, I swatched it to see how it would work for me.  Thus I know that if you work it up in the designated chunky yarn or with a double strand of worsted weight, this one could be truly an Afghan In A Day (without the fringe).

I’m not a huge fan of fringe to begin with and I would probably choose a different edging or finishing for it, but Allison has a great tutorial for making fringe along with her free pattern.  It’s not that fringe is hard to make, but there are ways to make it easier on one’s self.  Allison has a good take on that.  It helps that the chunky yarn works up into a plush fringe rather than the often stringy looking fringe I see on other afghans and scarves.

So, if you need an afghan in a hurry, this is the one for you.  The simple V-stitch is easy to learn and works well with any weight yarn.  Make one for a baby shower this weekend and use a scallop edging rather than fringe.  Make it up as a square for a lapghan.  Work with you starting chain to create a scarf rather than an afghan – with or without fringe.  I’d opt for the chunky yarn rather than the double strand simply because the double strand is more taxing for my wrists.  And, I just love the plush hand of a chunky wool and acrylic blend like Wool-ese.  Wonderful to snuggle under for an adult or baby!

Quick 4-Hour Afghan Crochet Pattern

Introduction: Are you looking for a fast and easy crochet project that can be completed in just one sitting? Look no further than this quick 4-hour afghan! With simple stitches and bulky yarn, you’ll have a cozy and warm blanket in no time.

Materials:

  • 6 skeins of bulky weight yarn (about 480 yards)
  • Size N/P (10mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle

Gauge: 9 stitches and 6 rows = 4 inches in double crochet

Finished Size: Approximately 40 inches wide by 60 inches long

Instructions:

Foundation row: Ch 67.

Row 1: DC in 4th ch from hook, DC in each ch across. (65)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first DC), turn. DC in each st across. (65)

Repeat Row 2 until desired length is reached, or until you have used up all 6 skeins of yarn.

Finishing: Fasten off and weave in all ends using the yarn needle.

Optional: Add a border in a contrasting color or continue in the same color with a simple edging of SC or HDC around the entire blanket.

That’s it! This quick and easy afghan is perfect for cozying up on the couch, snuggling under at outdoor events, or giving as a last-minute gift. Enjoy!
