ST LOUIS CROCHET CLUB APRIL, 2011

Here’s a late report of the show n’ tell at the last meeting of the St. Louis Crochet Club.  We are a diverse group and we welcome knitters, weavers, and those who do other sorts of needle arts in addition to crochet.  We were fortunate to have a new crochet-friend join us, Marti, who was the winner of one of the Giveaways on this blog.  So great to have a reader who lives nearby.

So, here’s the rundown.

Mandi – who is going full speed ahead with her knitting and will now be weaving also brought a beautiful skein of yarn she had spun and dyed herself.  She also had a pair of knit socks made with the yarn of a local company Dyeabolical.  Mandi also has taken up basketry and brought in a lovely market basket she had made!

Marti is working on small Japanese floral motifs in Paton’s Grace, a favorite yarn of many of us.  Also in her WIP bag is a Venetian lace grape and leaf collar from her great grandmother. She’s going to bring the original in for us to see next month.  Marti also shared a mini granny square cuff and a tiny granny square necklace.  Stunning!

Cathy has produced another of her favorite Queen Anne’s Lace scarf, this time in white acrylic yarn.  Also in her bag were an All Shawl made with a Pound of Love in turquoise and a stunning version of Kim Guzman’s Sweetheart Ripple.

This was a Show Stopper!  I’m trying to figure out how to get this beauty out of her hands and into mine!  Maybe I’ll have to break down and make my own.  Her WIP is the Aphrodite Shawl in Caron Spa.

Georgia is still working on the Berroco Sock Yarn Wald afghan worked in three different variegateds.  And, yes, I’ve already bought the yarn!

Rita has been dying yarn again.  She felted a cell phone cozy in a charcoal yarn and knitted a pair of socks for her husband in a sock yarn she had overdyed (and greatly improved).

Ronnie had her usual large haul to show off.  The cute Lion Brand Mushroom hot pad from a Mystery CAL was adorable.  The Allegheny Moon Moebius, a Doris Chan design, was worked in Online sock yarn.  The Diane Trellis Shawl was crocheted from spool yarn in a pale pink (from my huge stash) and she had worked up a lovely Indonesian Half Circle Shawl designed by Thata Pang (we don’t know the actual name of the shawl since we can’t read the language but the schematics are truly international.) in Jadeite color of SW Trading Company’s Therapi yarn.  Ronnie had also finished the huge (100X96 inches) afghan for her tall son and a Myster CAL Drops bag made with a lot of popcorns in Paton’s Grace color we called Deep Aqua.  A light month for Ronnie….

As for me, I got to show off my Seraphina Shawl made with 6 skeins of Jojoland Melody Superwash and a bunch of scarves I’ve been making to experiment with stitch patterns.  For these, I’m using a wonderful soft pink yarn in a wool blend.  I also made a scarf in brown/black painterly colors for my daughter’s next birthday and a delicious Urban Shells scarf from an orphan skein of alpaca hand dyed in a colorway of muted mik chocolate to maroon (FOR ME!).  You can get the free pattern for the Urban Shells scarf here.

So, as usual, we all had a good time.  Lots to see, ooh and aah over, yarns to pet, and interesting conversation.  That’s all til our May meeting.
